The first container of equipment for Isuzu's new truck plant came by rail from Charleston to Inland Port Greer. The $280 million plant is set to open in 2027.

The first container of production equipment for Isuzu’s new truck plant in Greenville County has reached Inland Port Greer. It came by rail from the Port of Charleston, the South Carolina Ports Authority said Wednesday.

The equipment is bound for the plant Isuzu is building on Augusta Road, south of the city of Greenville. The plant is not in Greer. But the company has said the rail link between Charleston and the inland port in Greer was part of why it chose Greenville County.

That comes from the SC Ports announcement dated Oct. 21.

The plant

Isuzu North America announced the plant in February 2025. Its own release and the governor’s office announcement give these details:

  • a total investment of about $280 million, including land, building, tooling and equipment
  • a 1 million-square-foot building on more than 200 acres, being converted into an assembly plant
  • N-Series Gas, N-Series Electric and F-Series Diesel trucks
  • assembly to begin in 2027 and expand in 2028
  • more than 700 jobs by 2028
  • capacity for 50,000 trucks a year by 2030

The state also gave Greenville County a $7 million Closing Fund grant toward site preparation and building costs, the governor’s office said.

“Having a reliable and efficient supply chain is critical to our long-term success as we establish production operations in South Carolina,” Isuzu Chairman and CEO Yoshi Murakami said in the SC Ports release. “Inland Port Greer provides a strategic connection to the Port of Charleston, ensuring we quickly receive parts for production.”

What Inland Port Greer is

Inland Port Greer is a rail yard run by the state ports authority at 100 International Commerce Blvd. in Greer. Containers arrive from Charleston by train and leave by truck, and the other way around. It opened in 2013.

The ports authority gives these figures for it:

  • 355% growth in its first decade
  • a $55 million expansion finished in 2025, adding 9,000 feet of rail
  • 50% more cargo capacity after the expansion, up to 300,000 rail lifts a year
  • overnight Norfolk Southern rail service six days a week
  • gates open 24 hours a day, seven days a week

“Inland Port Greer is the gold standard for high volume, short-haul intermodal rail,” SC Ports President and CEO Micah Mallace said.

What it means for you

The plant’s opening is still on the 2027 schedule the company set last year. The ports authority did not say how many Isuzu containers will move through Greer or how often.

Isuzu said in 2025 that it would share details on jobs and how to apply. If you are looking for work at the plant, watch Isuzu Commercial Truck of America’s website for that announcement.
