Road closures. In 2025, Trade Street was closed starting at 11 a.m. at Poinsett Street, at Randall Street (both sides of the intersection) and at the Depot, along with the Depot parking lot. The city had not posted 2026 closures as of Oct. 16.

Parking. Use the free downtown lots on the city’s parking map. In 2025 the city suggested the 210-space Jason Street parking garage, 120 Jason St. The lot around the Historic Greer Depot is not open for general parking during the event.

What to leave at home, per the 2025 guide: pets (certified service animals are welcome), outside food, costumes or props that could hurt other people, and violent or profane costumes.

Want to hand out candy? Individuals, families, businesses and groups can apply with the trunk application; participants may be subject to a background check. Set-up is 3 to 4:15 p.m. on Oct. 25, with check-in in the parking lot at 300 Randall St. The rules: no heavy machinery, tractors, generators or fireworks; no power is provided; decorations must be family-friendly; and an adult must stay with the trunk.

Treat safety

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Halloween food safety tips for parents:

  • Feed children a meal or snack before they go out, and have them wait to eat treats until you have checked them at home.
  • Throw away anything that is not commercially wrapped, or that has pinholes, tears or an unusual look.
  • For a child with a food allergy, read every label and skip home-baked treats.
  • Remove choking hazards such as gum, peanuts, hard candy and small toys for very young children.
  • At a Halloween party, serve only pasteurized cider and juice.
