New Year’s Eve is Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026, and New Year’s Day is Friday, Jan. 1, 2027. Greer does not hold a city New Year’s Eve celebration, and no public party, fireworks show or countdown in Greer had been announced by an organizer as of Nov. 1. Things to do on New Year’s Eve

Magic of Lights at Hollywild, Hollywild Animal Preserve, 2325 Hampton Road, Wellford, in Spartanburg County. The 2026 season opens Nov. 20 and runs 5:30 to 9 p.m., with a $10-a-person drive-through, according to Hollywild. Its homepage lists the last night as Jan. 1 in one place and Jan. 2 in another, so New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are among the final nights.

Downtown dinners. Several downtown Greer restaurants take reservations for evenings out, among them Rick Erwin’s, 104 E. Poinsett St., 864-527-5237, and Crate Restaurant and Wine Bar, 213 Trade St., 864-334-5703. Neither had posted New Year’s Eve plans as of Nov. 1. Our date night guide lists more.

New Year’s Day closings

  • Trash: Meridian Waste observes New Year’s Day. On Friday, Jan. 1, 2027, Friday routes are picked up Saturday, Jan. 2, according to the city’s 2026 holiday schedule. The city has also posted its 2027 collection schedule.
  • City offices: the city closed its offices on New Year’s Day 2026 and moved the Thursday and Friday trash routes back a day, it said on its live feed. Its 2027 notice had not been posted as of Nov. 1. City Hall: 864-848-2150.
  • Lake Robinson and Lake Cunningham are closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, according to Greer CPW.
  • Post offices are closed on New Year’s Day, a federal holiday.

Getting home safely

Plan a ride before you go out. The free Greer Station shuttle runs downtown only until 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, according to the city’s parking and shuttle page, so it will not cover a midnight countdown. Call 911 in an emergency; the Greer Police Department’s non-emergency line is 864-848-2151.
