Memorial Day is Monday, May 31, 2027. It honors the men and women who died serving in the U.S. armed forces. For Greer households, the practical change is trash: Meridian Waste does not collect on Memorial Day, and every route runs a day late for the rest of the week. The long weekend is also when Greenville County’s waterparks open for the summer.

Trash and the convenience center

Memorial Day is one of the five holidays Meridian Waste observes, according to the city’s 2026 holiday collection schedule. In 2026 the city said trash would not be picked up on Monday, May 25, and that “the weekly trash collection schedule will be a day behind the entire week.” The Buncombe Street convenience center was closed on Memorial Day and reopened Tuesday, May 26, the city said on its live feed. Ceremonies

No Memorial Day ceremony in Greer itself was on the state’s 2026 list. The nearest listed public observance was in Greenville:

  • Greenville Observance and Monument Unveiling, 10 a.m. Monday, May 25, 2026, 301 University Ridge, Greenville, according to the South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs. The department’s list also included morning runs in Greenville that day: the Greenville Track Club Memorial Day Mile at 7 a.m. at the Kroc Center and Wear Blue Run to Remember at 9 a.m.

Victor Memorial Veterans Park

Greer’s own place of remembrance is Victor Memorial Veterans Park, 50 17th St. It was begun in 1995 by the Greer chapter of the Disabled American Veterans and the city, and has a walking path, a gazebo, and a Bell AH-1 Cobra helicopter and an M106A1 mortar carrier on permanent display, according to the city’s parks page. Disabled American Veterans Chapter 39 now meets at the Tryon Recreation Center, the city’s recreation programs page says.

  • Waterparks: Greenville County Rec’s three waterparks open the Saturday before Memorial Day. In 2026 that was May 23, and they were open on Memorial Day itself, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., according to the county’s 2026 operating schedule. The nearest to Greer is Otter Creek Waterpark in Northside Park, 101 W. Darby Road, Greenville, 864-834-4108.
  • Lake Robinson and Lake Cunningham are open sunrise to sunset; Greer CPW closes them only on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
  • Post offices are closed; Memorial Day is a federal holiday.
