Greer’s November runs from the Greer Farmers Market’s Chili Cookoff in mid-month to the Holiday Arts Fair the Saturday before the holiday, and the long weekend leads straight into the city’s tree lighting on Friday, Dec. 4. The main change at home is trash pickup: Thursday and Friday routes run a day late.

Meridian Waste observes Thanksgiving as one of its five holidays. In Thanksgiving week, Thursday routes move to Friday and Friday routes move to Saturday; Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday routes run as normal, according to the city’s 2026 holiday collection schedule. Greer Relief, the nonprofit Greer residents founded in 1936 to help neighbors facing hunger and homelessness, runs the Victoria Food Pantry. Turkey trot

No turkey trot in Greer had been announced by an organizer for 2026 as of Nov. 1. The nearest Thanksgiving morning race is the TreesUpstate Turkey Day Run in downtown Greenville, about 10 miles away. It has an 8K run and a 5K fun run and walk, with corral starts by pace from 8:30 to 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26. The 8K course passes Cancer Survivors Park, Falls Park and Unity Park. Its registration page lists $35 and says all events are “$35 until 11/1, and then $40”; children 10 and under are $20. Proceeds go to TreesUpstate, the nonprofit that plants and protects trees in the Upstate.

What is open and closed

  • Lake Robinson and Lake Cunningham are open sunrise to sunset; Greer CPW closes them only on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, according to its lakes page.
  • Post offices are closed; Thanksgiving is a federal holiday.
  • City offices: the city had not posted its Thanksgiving office closing notice as of Nov. 1. Call City Hall at 864-848-2150 the week before.
  • Haywood Mall in Greenville: regular hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. It had not posted holiday hours as of Oct. 16; check its hours page.

Before and after the holiday

  • Sunday, Nov. 15: Greer Farmers Market Chili Cookoff, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Greer City Park, with more than 45 local farmers, makers and bakers, live music and food trucks. Chili taste tickets are $1 each; People’s Choice votes are due by 1:30 p.m. and winners are named at 1:45 p.m.
  • From Friday, Nov. 20: Magic of Lights at Hollywild Animal Preserve, 2325 Hampton Road, Wellford, 5:30 to 9 p.m. nightly; the drive-through is $10 a person.
  • Saturday, Nov. 21: Holiday Arts Fair and Empty Bowls Sale, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Center for the Arts, 804 Trade St., and Sensory Santa at City Hall by reservation, according to the city calendar.
